Commissioning of the general planner for the new Rebstockbad building Start of planning for the beautiful new Rebstockbad!

The existing Rebstockbad was opened in 1982 and was the largest adventure pool in Germany at the time. The existing Rebstockbad is visited by around 600.000 guests every year, is the most important swimming pool location in Frankfurt am Main and caters for over 1/3 of the indoor swimming pool guests in the Frankfurt baths. After more than 35 years and more than 20 million guests, there are structural and technical problems due to age, the existing Rebstockbad is nearing the end of its operating life. Based on the investigation of various development options, the City of Frankfurt am Main decided to demolish the existing pool and construct a new replacement building at the same location.

A two-stage Europe-wide planning competition with 11 participants was carried out to optimally develop the future prospects for the new Rebstockbad. After intensive deliberations by the high-ranking jury, the design by the planning office Geising + Böker Architekten GmbH from Hamburg was awarded first prize.

The innovative and very experienced planning team led by the architect Rolf Böker was also able to impress in the award procedure that followed the planning competition and was commissioned with the general planning of the new Rebstockbad. The planning for the beautiful new Rebstockbad will start in February 2021.

Dr. Zielinski, Managing Director of the Frankfurt Baths, explains: “The start of planning for the new Rebstockbad is an important milestone for the Frankfurt Baths. We look forward to the constructive cooperation with the planners and the positive future prospects for the beautiful new Rebstockbad.”

City Councilor Frank emphasizes: "The future Rebstockbad will be a showcase project in the pool landscape! The new construction of the Rebstockbad is of central importance for securing the future of the supply of leisure and water areas and the opportunity for active leisure activities in Frankfurt am Main.”

The new construction of the Rebstockbad will, in addition to its function of supplying the city of Frankfurt am Main, have a supra-regional appeal in the Rhine-Main area. The profile of the new Rebstockbad optimally takes into account the wide range of needs when visiting a pool – from sporting aspects to the possibility of spending leisure time with family and friends to health and wellness-oriented offers. The redesign of the Rebstockbad is therefore "elementary" in the truest sense of the word and the entire new building is given an attractive theme. A flexible and modular conception of the main areas of use, such as sporty swimming, adventure pool, sauna and ancillary areas, also optimizes the possible uses of all areas and ensures their attractiveness for all guests. An important part of the new Rebstockbad continues to be the energy and resource-saving, ecological and economical construction and operation of the Rebstockbad, taking environmental and climate protection into account.

With a gross floor area of over 18.000 m² and a water surface of over 2.000 m², the new construction of the Rebstockbad is one of the largest swimming pool projects in Germany. The functional sports pool meets the requirements of schools, clubs and athletes in particular with a competitive swimmers' area, a teaching swimming area and a diving area. In the exciting adventure area, a variety of attractions, such as a wave pool, a lazy river, various heated pools and areas for families with children offer an exciting and varied bathing experience. There is action in the slide and active area, which is equipped with 3 adventure slides at the beginning, the possibility of adding more slides at a later date is taken into account. The attractive sauna area offers a nice break from everyday life, including interesting saunas, cold and warm pools, relaxation areas and a spacious outdoor sauna area. The main uses of the new Rebstockbad are supplemented by a wellness and spa area and the administration of BäderBetriebe Frankfurt GmbH.

A total net investment of around €89,5 million is planned for the new Rebstockbad building project. The closure of the existing Rebstockbad is planned for the end of April 2021, replacement water areas will be created in the outdoor pool in Hausen. The start of construction for the new Rebstockbad is planned for the beginning of 2023, the opening of the new Rebstockbad is planned for the end of 2025.
